The Wedding Industry Awards.

I nearly didn’t enter The Wedding Industry awards this year, I was really busy with my usual hairdressing , wedding shows, weddings and enquiries for next year all coming at once and I didn’t think I could fit in the admin required to enter.

IMG_7431aBUT the super lovely Sophie nominated me , as well as all of her other suppliers and I know that must have taken her ages to do. I couldn’t not enter.   Plus, there would be a regional awards party and it would be an excuse to dress up and mingle with some of  my favourite wedding industry friends.

Winning the region last year was a huge surprise for me as I felt my fellow nominees were equally as deserving. The same should be said for this years talented bunch. The judges really had their work cut out choosing the winner.

Sadly, I didn’t win this year. But when the winner is someone whose work you have admired , it’s not quite so bad.  Also it was really great to see Fetcham Park  and Kalm Kitchen win their categories

Hair and Make-up ladies having fun!

I’ve always thought (and said many times ) that the real prize in The Wedding Industry Awards are the wonderful words that every bride takes  the trouble to write .

The way I approach all aspects of my work with enthusiasm and commitment to provide a high level of service , and the relationships that evolve with clients,  is pretty standard for me, so the  fact that each and everyone of my brides feels that I have gone above and beyond is amazing.

I want to thank them all for voting , I really do appreciate it.

Here are their words:

Whilst I could point to a picture and Sharon could do them perfectly for my bridesmaids (and their hair didn’t move ONE BIT the whole day & night) I had absolutely no idea what I wanted as the bride. That’s where Sharon’s creativity and flexibility really kept me calm and made me feel amazing on the day. Sharon was patient, kind, and allowed me to pin 100,000 pictures on Pinterest for her to look at – and we didn’t decide on my hair fully until the actual morning and I loved it – beyond words.
Mrs Sophie Pentony

I had four bridesmaids and myself all with varying hair lengths and thicknesses, Sharon was able to create stunning up-dos for all of us that lasted all night long. Everyone loved their hair and the service on the day was amazing.  Sharon also gave me the most helpful tip of the day how to go to the toilet in a huge wedding dress- her other bits of advice just showed the experience she has in the industry and was a calming influence on the day.
Mrs Lauren Goodwin (Calvert)

Sharon is a very talented hairdresser and created not only the perfect hairstyle for me but also for my bridesmaids. She understood the style that I wanted and created a beautiful hairstyle that lasted all day! My bridesmaids gave her pictures of hairstyles that they liked and she created the most perfect styles for them, which they all absolutely loved! She also had so much advice to give and was very helpful in organising us all the morning of the wedding!
Dr Charlotte Thompson

Sharon was brilliant on the day and not only created wonderful hairstyles for myself and four bridesmaids, but also managed to keep everyone relaxed! I had countless comments on the day about how lovely my hair looked and I felt confident that my hair would stay looking perfect all day. Thank you Sharon!

November catch up

This year is going so fast , I can’t quite believe its nearly Christmas. I promised myself in January that I would try  and update the blog more often . I have failed miserably, but only because its easier to update my Facebook page and Instagram. I can do that from my phone , in between my regular hairdressing clients and its is done before I’ve finished work for the day. My main problem is that I’m not very technically minded and the lovely  Leah  who usually does all the technical stuff for me has  been a bit busy having a baby!

So, until  I learn how to add new mini galleries to my Real Brides pages, you can keep up with my hairdressing ( & otherwise) antics and updates  on Instagram here  and Facebook here

In the meantime here’s a little taster of what’s to come:

Wedding fair season usually starts in the Autumn, but I  am pleased to say I have been  invited to exhibit at a brand new fair this coming Sunday 19th July , located by the River Thames in Ditton. Quite a lot of my favourite wedding people I like to work with will be there and if the weather holds out it will be a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Invite to the Wedding Fair 2015

Hello to 2015 and lovely words from lovely brides.

I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of January and I’m only just getting round to writing my welcome to 2015 post!

2014 was  a busy  year meeting lots of lovely brides , seeing the gorgeous  space  for the  relocation of Miss Bush bridal boutique come to life and being part of the  grand opening, going  the launch of  The Freelance Hairdressers Association,  a summer visit to Lake Garda,   a new website and new branding from the brilliant Leah from Golden Apple, an inspirational workshop with the very talented Lorna Evans.  But the biggest thing that happened was  I won The Wedding Industry Award for Best Hair Stylist – London & South East!

Winning the London and South East region is a huge accomplishment for me, I was up against some extremely talented hairstylists, all equally deserving of the award, in the largest region. It means so much to me that brides took time out of their busy lives to write about their experience and vote for me.

Some of my regular hairdressing clients have asked what did I win? Well, the physical prize was a cute paperweight embossed with the words

‘BEST HAIR STYLIST London & South East Regional Winner’

BUT the real prize was  a PDF file crammed full of lovely words from my even  lovelier brides, which brought tears to my eyes.  I’m lucky that I love what I do for a living and its an amazing feeling that ‘just doing my job’ means so much to all my brides.

Here are their comments….. Continue reading

Choosing the right hairstylist for you

Choosing the right hairstylist for your wedding hair.

There are many to choose from and you want to make the right choice. It’s not like getting  your haircut in the salon  on the high street and if you don’t like what they’ve done , it’ll grow and you’ll try somewhere else next time! You don’t want to have trial after trial with lots of hairdressers.

Recommendations are good way to start, I get most of my work by word of mouth. Ask your bridal boutique, make up artist, even the photographer who they like to work with.

Venue recommendations are a bit different and vary massively.  Some  venues will have a few suppliers that they know personally and can vouch for their standard of work and customer service and it really is a personal recommantion.

Other venues have glossy brochures with their  ‘recommended suppliers’. These brochures are usually produced by an outside company and suppliers will have paid  a fee to be included. Many  have ‘our supplier list’ which also require a fee to be on their list. Whilst this doesn’t mean they are not fantastic suppliers in their own right, (I know for a fact some of them are brilliant , as  I recommend them myself),  it’s a bit misleading to call it a recommendation.  Its always worth asking a venue  if suppliers have  paid to be on this list.

New product love.

Last week I managed to secure some shampoo and conditioners in  mini sizes from the luxury boutique brand Unite for the Suzanne Neville designer day goody bags  at Miss Bush Bridalwear . (more about that day in a later post ). I’ve had my eye on this brand for a while and I took the plunge of buying  quite a lot of the new styling range. I’m not really faithful to one particular brand. I  like various hairsprays and volumising mousses and use a mix of professional and high street brands.

Well, this may be about to change.

I’m a Finalist!!!!

I am  pleased as punch to be a regional finalist  in the London and South East Hair Stylist category of The  2015 Wedding Industry Awards. I’d like to thank all my brides for taking the time to vote for me.  I probably drove  you all mad with my texts and emails   reminding  you  to vote, but I really do appreciate it.  I look forward to reading your kind words once the competition is over.regionalfinalist_4_hi1a

There is a regional awards ceremony  at the end of November where the regional winners will be announced, so I’ll be needing everyone to keep everything crossed .

This weekend…

This weekend is a busy one for me. I have the lovely Melanie and her maid’s hair to style for her wedding on Saturday morning and straight after that I’m hotfooting it to London to wander around the inspiring, craziness that is Salon International. Its like a cross between Brides the Show meets Ideal Home. There are usually some really slick  well polished demonstrations on stages with beautiful models and huge stands with every tool and products a hairdresser could ever want or dream about owning.

Salon-international-2011-first

On Sunday the tables are turned as  I am exhibiting at Bourne Hall Wedding Show in Ewell  . I shall be styling the hair for the bridal catwalk  as well as  indulging in my favourite pass time,  talking  about weddings!

As if that’s not enough, on Monday and Tuesday I’m attending a workshop with the amazingly  creative hairdresser Lorna Evans , you can see some of her work here that inspired me to book this workshop.

Hope you all have a great weekend
